Shortpost – Czech GIS 2014

January 2014 will see the GIS Ostrava 2014 conference on geo-informatics for intelligent transportation (the conference website is here). One of the speakers will be Professor Bin Jiang, who will present a paper on “Ht-Index for characterising street hierarchy”.  The conference website gives a precis of this and some of the other papers to be presented. What is interesting about Professor Jiang’s planned paper is that it relates the topics of:

  • hierarchy
  • GIS
  • scale, and
  • fractal dimensions

He will also argue that “scaling should be formulated as a law of geography”.
