An update, version 5.2, of the publication “Road design standards” (of which I am the editor) is now available. You can find a link to a free copy of the document if you visit the home page at
The introduction to the document says:
“Most countries issue their own guidelines on highway geometric design (some issue more than one guideline). They offer a good place to start when a new project involves road design in their country. This document provides an overview of what the current standards are in a number of different countries. The details are as accurate as could be prepared at the time of publication, but there are no claims that they are either complete or fully up to date”.
